Building with purpose: celebrating the opening of BlueCHP’s Mentone SDA
The Harnest team recently had the privilege of attending the official opening of the Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) project we delivered for BlueCHP in Mentone. It was a day of celebration, and a powerful reminder of why we do what we do.

What Specialist Disability Accommodation provides
Specialist Disability Accommodation is housing designed for people with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs. Funded through the NDIS, SDA homes are built to specific design standards so residents can live as independently and safely as possible, with the right support around them.
For participants, a well-designed SDA home can mean greater independence, more choice and a better quality of life. Every detail, fromcirculation space and accessible bathrooms to assistive technology and robustfinishes, contributes to how well a home supports the person living in it.
Hearing from families
The most meaningful part of the opening was hearing directly from families about what access to high-quality SDA means to them.
Their stories made something clear. SDA gives participants greater independence, choice and quality of life, and it also gives familiessomething just as important: confidence and peace of mind, knowing their lovedones have a safe, supportive place to call home for years to come.
For many families, finding the right long-term home for aloved one is one of the biggest decisions they will make. Being part of a project that helps answer that question is a real privilege.
What collaboration makes possible
The feedback throughout the day reinforced what can be achieved when clients, consultants, designers and construction teams worktogether with a shared purpose.
SDA projects bring together many stakeholders, each withdifferent needs and priorities. Getting the outcome right means involving theright people early, solving problems in design rather than on site, and keepingthe needs of future residents at the centre of every decision.
We’d like to thank BlueCHP for their partnership, and the consultants, designers, trade partners and Harnest team members who broughtthis project to life.
Why quality matters
An SDA home isn’t a short-term solution. It is a long-lifeasset that people will rely on for years, so quality has to hold up over the long term. That means durable materials, careful detailing and homes thatcontinue to perform long after handover.
The result in Mentone is far more than a building. It is ahome that empowers people, strengthens communities and creates a lasting impact.
Building with purpose
Projects like this remind us why quality matters, why collaboration matters, and why building with purpose makes all the difference.Congratulations to BlueCHP, and to the residents and families who will callthis home.
